How to Claim a Tax Refund on the CIS scheme
As a CIS worker, your tax is deducted directly from your gross earnings. This mean you will pay alot more than you should do each year, because your tax liability should be for gross earnings minus allowable expenses
You can submit your allowable expenses each year via a cis tax return. This lowers the amount that you should have paid tax on. The Inland Revenue will then calculate the difference in tax and pay the CIS refunds back to you.
On average CIS workers can claim over £1500 each year. However, the paperwork can be very complicated for an individual. This means that many workers only claim a fraction of what they are entitled to, or submit invalid claims.
Our accountants can do all of the paperwork for you, and make things very simple. They can even help with missing records.
They submit hundreds of UK tax returns each year, and they know how to claim your maximum rebate in the quickest possible time. You could receive your CIS Rebates in less than a month!
CIS Scheme Registration
Firstly you will need to make sure that you're registered on the CIS Scheme. In order to register, you must first obtain a unique tax reference (UTR) number which is done by registering for self employment. This can be done in a number of ways. - Register on line via the hmrc website via this link - By calling the Inland Revenue on 0845 915 4515 - Or if you prefer, call us free on 0800 1577450 and we can do this on your behalf.
Once you have gone through the registration process, you will receive a letter from the Inland revenue stating that they will now require a UK tax return from you in the future. Your UTR number will be on this letter. You will then need to contact the construction industry scheme on 0845 366 7899 to complete the registration. You will then need to submit annual returns to claim on CIS Refunds. Our Head Office is based in Essex, but we claim refunds for clients in all parts of the UK. Everything can be completed quickly by phone and post. Clients in Essex and East London are welcome to come to the office if preferred.
